Zopiclone Dosage Guidelines
- Zopiclone tablets can be taken with or without food.
- These tablets should be administered by mouth, and with a drink of water. The water is to aid the movement of the medication to the stomach should that digestive processing can occur and the active ingredient may be absorbed into the bloodstream.
- You should take these tablets at least an hour prior to retiring to bed as this will give the medication sufficient time to work.
- The sleeping pill ought to be swallowed in whole form, that is, without chewing, crushing or biting the tablet as doing so may release the active ingredient all at once and this could interfere with the proper functioning of the therapeutic.
- In the event of a missed dosage during treatment, you should skip the missed dose and resume with your normal schedule from the next schedule dosage. You should never double dosages to make up for a missed one as this may increase your risk for side effects.
- Do not use this medication in conjunction with alcohol, recreational drugs or any medicine that functions in a similar manner. Concomitant use of this sleep aid with any of the aforementioned substances can result in interactions that could lead to negative consequences.
Is Zopiclone Safer than Benzodiazepine Drugs
For those who buy zopiclone tablets online, it is often considered that one of the most crucial parts of effective sleep therapy is the safety of the treatment. In the past, benzodiazepines have been used for the management of sleep disorders but these psychoactive medicines were associated with safety concerns and have since almost been replaced with the use of Z-drugs (non-benzodiazepines).
According to Wagner and Wagner (2000), non-benzodiazepines are preferred as they have a lower potential (when compared to benzodiazepines) of:
- Tolerance
- Dependence
- Abuse potential
- Respiratory depression
- Memory and/or psychomotor impairments
- Altered sleep architecture
- Rebound insomnia
- Withdrawal effects
Research has also further indicated that the use of this Z-drug may be both possible and safe, for the long-term (Pecknold et. al., 1990). This is a clinical indication, which is not often seen with many sleeping tablets. Studies relating to the long-term efficacy of zopiclone tablets were conducted for up to eight weeks, and revealed marked improvements in sleep efficiency and duration, as well as no evidence of rebound insomnia among the study population.
